Between Ergs and Regs Camel Trek

This 7-day camel trek in Morocco is a deep immersion into the heart of the Sahara, following ancient caravan routes between the great ergs and the stony regs. Starting from M'Hamid, you'll travel on foot and by camel across the Fayija dunes, the vast Hamada du Drâa plateau and the rocky landscapes of Djebel Bani. Discover the Sacred Oasis, remote nomad camps and the legendary Erg Chegaga — the largest dune field in southern Morocco. Sleep every night under a canopy of stars in traditional bivouacs, far from any light pollution, surrounded only by silence and sand. Taste authentic Berber cooking prepared on the fire, listen to traditional music, and share tea with Saharan families. Explore the historic palm groves of Tamegroute and the Drâa Valley, with its kasbahs, pottery workshops and ancient libraries. This camel trek is the purest way to discover the Moroccan Sahara — slowly, deeply and authentically.

Full Program & Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in M'Hamid & First Dunes

Arrival in M'Hamid, gateway to the Sahara. Meet your camel guide and begin the trek on foot and by camel toward the first dunes of the Fayija. Bivouac camp in the open desert under the stars, with a traditional dinner prepared on the fire.

Day 2

Sacred Oasis & Hamada du Drâa

Continue the trek through the Sacred Oasis and onto the vast Hamada du Drâa plateau — a stony desert landscape with horizons that stretch to infinity. Lunch in the shade of an acacia tree, then reach a remote nomad camp for the night.

Day 3

Djebel Bani Foothills

Trek toward the rocky foothills of Djebel Bani — a striking contrast to the soft sand dunes. Cross dry riverbeds and pass ancient rock carvings. Bivouac camp at the base of the mountain, with panoramic views of the surrounding desert.

Day 4

Approach to Erg Chegaga

Continue across the regs toward the great erg. In the late afternoon, the first dunes of Chegaga come into view — a truly unforgettable moment. Camp at the edge of the dune field, with dinner and Berber music around the fire.

Day 5

Erg Chegaga — The Great Dunes

Explore the heart of Erg Chegaga — the largest and most spectacular dune field in southern Morocco. Climb the highest dune for a legendary sunset, then descend to the camp for a full traditional feast under the stars.

Day 6

Tamegroute & Drâa Valley

Bid farewell to Chegaga and travel by 4x4 toward Tamegroute, visiting its ancient library and pottery workshops. Continue along the Drâa Valley with its endless palm groves and kasbahs. Overnight in a riad in Zagora or Agdz.

Day 7

Return to Marrakech

Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with a stop at the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou kasbah. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon. End of tour.
